Dear Friends,
Thanks a million for your letter, it’s very nice that one can look back to the time I spend in Western you Europe and to know that I have made friends and able to unite to them. I am glad that baby is o.k. and also Peter. I have the family photo here with me know. If you should see the lady at 26 tell her a letter from her would be very welcomed.
The weather here in England is very poor at present, but we are all looking forward to Christmas holidays. I finish work Saturday until the following Thursday. So I guess that is all for now.

Dear Nellie & Henk
Here’s hoping that all are well in your home.
How are the children Peter and Jacobia, I would like to see them again, as Peter will be getting a big boy by now.
I hope Henk has got his new uniform, and things are getting a lot better in Holland now the war is over.
Nellie I am sorry that I did not have the chance to go to Appledoorn to see your mother and father, but I hope that they are all o.k. and that you will soon be seeing them soon again.
All the boys wish to be remembered to you and Henk and thank you for all you did for them while they lived in your house. We all miss the good will of the Hollands people quite a lot and there are some who wish they were back in Nijmeagen again and some time we will come back to see our friends again.
Well I think this is all for now except to say that I hope you get this letter and that you will write back to let me know how your babies are, also yourself and Henk.
Nellie, I wonder would Jacobia sing for me now if I were there. Only the other day I went in my wallet and the first thing I saw was that photo you gave me of her sitting in the bath.
Well cherio for now and I hope to be able to see you all again soon.

Henk I hope that you are getting a good supply of food and cigarettes now. Here in Deutschland there are no cigarettes and very little food but there are plenty of places that are liberated.

Thanks for your letter which I received on the 29th of August.
I thought that you were not going to Reply to the letter that I had sent you I was surprised when I did get it Especially when it was written in such Good English.
Who wrote it Nelly you or Henk?
Well I am pleased to hear that you, Henk ɿ Cobi ɿ Peter are all well.
In your letter I notice that you say an English soldier is teaching Cobi to say “Daddy”, I cant’ imagine that she will need such teaching, for she is Very Quick at picking things up. I can see her now standing in her chair ɿ the Frown on her Face when Henk told her to sit down, she is Certainly a lovely Baby ɿ I enjoyed playing with her when I was at your Home.
Peter will be getting a Big Boy now wont ’he? He was such a Small Laddie when I saw him last, he was laying on the Kitchen Table while Nellie was changing his dirty Napkin, Cobi was toddling around playing with the Brush or something By the way Have you given Cobi the Clock to play with yet?
When I received your letter I showed it to the Boys who lived at your Home ɿ they were very pleased to hear that Everything was O.K. with you ɿ they Wish me to send you their Best Wishes ɿ Regards.
We were Especially pleased when we read that the Food situation was Better, it will be a Whole lot Better Next Year for Everyone.
You were able to go to Apeldoorn I see ɿ took your Grandmother back to your Home. I am sorry that I was not able to deliver your Note to them saying that all was well at your Home. I still have the Note in My Wallet.
Well Henk are you still in the Police, if so have you got your new Uniform yet I would have liked to have seen you in it Before we left Holland
I did try to get to Nijmegen to see you, as I wanted to talk to you about something. But the Arnhem Battle was about to begin ɿ I just couldn’t get to you.
I am expecting to come to Nijmegen sometime before Christmas ɿ then I will probably be able to see you all again, I notice that Cigarettes are still Short in Holland well Henk if I thought you would get them I would send you some but I know that if I did they would never reach you as I think that all letters ɿ parcels sent by us to Friends other than in England are still censored, so if I sent you any Cigarettes they wouldn’t Pass them on account of the Black Market.
This I think is all for now.

Dear Friends,
I feel sure that you will be surprised of recieving this letter from me after such a long time. As you know we were moved from Prince Bernard Straat to Breda hardly without us training. ‘t Was there I was taken ill and went to hospital in Antwerp, from there I was evacuated to England and finally got discharged and now I am back in England and in civilian life. How is my little boy getting on. By the way I haven’t forgotten how good you were to me while in Nijmegen, so if at any time you want to come to England you can always stay with us it will be a pleasure and I do hope you will come.
The war in the far East is now over, so we are in a world of peace again, would you tell the people my officer used to stay with that I am now out of the army, I think the number of the house was 28, you know where you saw me with the girl outside the house.
